Will the City automatically issue my 2024 residential parking sticker?

No.  Each resident must apply for a sticker. Applications may be made in-person, by mail or online.  The City will now require the resident to apply annually to ensure eligibility for the permit.  

Do I need to apply online?

No. The online application is a new feature offered by the City as a convenience. You may continue to apply in-person or by mail. Our application is available at the City Clerk's office.

What do I need to apply for my sticker?

You will need a valid driver's license, ID or utility bill issued within the last sixty (60) days listing a Chelsea residential address and a copy of valid vehicle registration with a Chelsea residential address. 

Will there be a fee for the residential parking sticker?

Does my car have to be registered in the City of Chelsea?

Yes.  The vehicle must be garaged in Chelsea in order to receive a residential parking sticker. 

When does my current sticker expire?

The current sticker expires on February 29, 2024.  

What if I owe parking tickets or excise taxes?

This year, we will not require payment of outstanding parking citations or excise taxes in order to expedite the process.  However, any registration owing more than $500 may be towed at any time for outstanding tickets.  If you are looking to renew your license or registration, all tickets must be paid in full for a release at the Mass Registry of Motor Vehicles.  Any outstanding tickets will continue to accrue late fees. 

Which permits can I apply for now?

All parking permits are open to apply for.

Can someone apply for me?

If you wish to send someone into the office on your behalf, they must present your completed application and the supporting documentation. If you wish to apply online, only the applicant can apply for themselves.

If I apply online, how will I receive my sticker?

If you apply online, you will receive your sticker by mail.  You cannot visit the office to pick-up your sticker once the application has been submitted online. If you do so you must apply again completely in person with all your proper documents.

Do I place the sticker on the car immediately?

Yes! Do not wait until it expires to display the residential parking sticker.  Parking Enforcement Officers are aware of the renewal period.  All 2024 residential parking stickers must be displayed immediately.
